Position One Motorsports IKF Region 7 Cal Speedway Report |
It was a busy weekend for the Position One Motorsports staff. While the team’s NASCAR program was at the Toyota Speedway for a double-header race, the team’s karting program was at Fontana’s Cal Speedway taking part in the IKF Region 7 Round # 5 race.
Even though the normally Sunny Southern California skies were replaced by unseasonably cold and misty conditions, the Position One Motorsports team was eagerly looking forward to turning up the heat with its driver lineup of Bobby Kelley and Dylan Nobile. Kelly has been spectacular in his last outings with the team with pole positions and race wins. For Nobile, this was only his second race as part of the Position One Motorsports stable. The team was also joined by drivers Juan Esteban Garcia and Jesse Huaman.
Saturday Report: Bobby Kelley started off as hot as he was last time he raced. Displaying his talents, he qualified his AVANTI chassis on pole for the TaG class. The qualifying performance was tempered during the Prefinal when the youngster suffered a blown engine while leading by a straightaway with one lap to go. Position One scored another pole when Dylan Nobile qualified on pole for HPV4 and followed up his stellar qualifying session by withstanding a pressure filled Prefinal and Final race, and took the checkered flag in 1st. Dylan's accomplishment was especially significant considering it was his second event with the team.
It was the PRD Spec class that brought the most attention on Saturday though. With 23 cars participating, teammates Nobile and Kelley would have to rise to the occasion if they were going to have a shot at winning. Kelly would qualify 6th followed by Nobile, who bested his teammate by posting a 3rd best qualifying effort. Kelley would come in 2nd in the Heat Race while Nobile followed in 5th. In the Final race Kelley rocketed to the front and never looked back and won the event with Nobile following him in the 8th spot. This is Kelley's second PRD win of the season, the most of any current competitor.
Like Nobile, Jesse Huaman raced with Position One for the first time. He qualified 3rd for the HPV2 class, besting his previous efforts by over ten positions. Jesse finished 3rd in the Prefinal and 8th in the Main. Juan Esteban from Colombia, in the Cadet class, qualified 15th and ended his day in the same position.
Sunday Report: The Position One squad regrouped on Sunday in the hopes of continuing their prior day’s success. Dylan Nobile dominated HPV4 by picking up another win after garnering the pole earlier in the day. He would go on to cap his day off by finishing 2nd in the Final. His teammate Kelly was right up there with him by qualifying 5th and finishing 3rd in the Heat race and 2nd in the Final race, right behind Nobile, solidifying a 1-2 finish for the team.
In the TaG category Bobby Kelley put an exclamation mark on the day by earning the pole position and following that up with a win in the Heat and the Final race. Kelley’s Final race performance was nothing less than dominating as the gap between him and second place was an impressive 4.192 seconds.
Jesse brought home his best finish of the season with an 8th place. With only two races in IKF competition under his belt, Jesse has shown amazing talent. Juan Esteban’s performance shined as well and he to had a great Sunday with his best finish yet, when he came in 7th for the ultra-competitive Comer class Final race.
Position One wishes to thank and acknowledge the hard work of the mechanics who made the team the winningest team of the weekend; Juan David Pena, Josh Brander, Josh Harris, Tyler Brooks, Chris Wesson, Colin McGinis and P1 Engines. Without them, this weekend’s success would not have been made possible.
