Young racer returns to his local track roots for upcoming season, as team expands its driver development program

Baldwin Park, CA (January 13, 2012) – On the heels of a successful 2011 championship ending racing season, Position OneMotorsports begins the 2012 season by adding two all new NASCAR Late Models to its fleet of race cars. Leading the charge for the team this year is former Position One Motorsports alum Luis Martinez Jr. who will return to full-time competition and pilot one of the two entries. The second car will be part of the team’s driver development program.
The team will also expand its 2012 driver development program to include the S2 series, as well as two Late Model and two Super Late Model entries. “It’s my goal for Position One to become the premier west coast team. To accomplish that we need the best possible equipment and people for our drivers to succeed and the new cars will upgrade our program,” said Luis Martinez Sr.
Luis Jr. will be behind the wheel of the now famous black and orange #03 King Taco Chevy entry. He returns to the team after spending the last 2 years
competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro West Series where he was awarded the series Rookie of the Year honor in 2010 and capped that off by winning his first race last year at the Portland International Raceway. He looks forward to coming home to the Position One team. “I really enjoyed the NASCAR weekly Late Model division and I look forward to being back with the Position One guys,” states Luis. Jr. In addition to his NASCAR K&N Pro West Series accomplishments, Luis Jr also sucessfully raced in three NASCAR Nationwide races, achieving a top-25
finish in two of those races.
Steve Boldroff will lead the Late Model program, in addition to handling the Crew Chief responsibilities for the #03 King Taco team. Boldroff is back at
Position One after spending part of 2011 in Mooresville, NC as lead mechanic for the Daytona winning #15 VAR NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team. “The truck series was a great learning experience, but it’s good to be back with Position One and Luis to continue building a first-class driver development program.
Going into the 2012 season, the team has much success to build from. 2011 was a break out year for the Position One Motorsports driver development program at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. In addition to winning Rookie of the Year honors, RJ Johnson won the Super Late Model title with a dominating 8 wins in 10 starts. The team’s other rookie driver, 16-year-old Taylor Miinch, carried the team with 2 wins and 2nd in points in the ultra competitive Late Model division. He also took Rookie of the Year honors aboard the his Position One
Motorsports powered entry.
