Mother Nature Deals Position One Motorsports a Setback

Coming in to the twelfth race of the season, the Position One Motorsports crew along with driver Luis Martinez Jr (#03-KING TACO) were looking to score its best qualifying and finish effort to date.  After  finishing a disappointing fifteenth place at the last event Martinez was confident that this weekend was going to provide him the breaks he needed to show his talent.

By the end of the night though half of his expectations would be realized while Mother Nature cruelly prevented the other half.  Round #12 of the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model series, as you would see, would have to be put on hold.

Qualifying:
Martinez took to the track for his qualifying effort and showed immediate speed.  With near perfect precision Martinez  carved his way around the track and managed a very respectable fifth place on the timesheets.   Having to wait for the rest of the field to qualify Martinez knew his time was good but was unsure if it was enough for a top-10 qualifying effort.  Minutes later, when the last driver crossed the Start/Finish line Martinez was relieved to see that his time was indeed a top-10 effort.  Martinez' car ended up tenth.  This would represent the teams best qualification effort to date.  Elated, the team went back to the pits to prepare for the race.

Position One received even better news at the conclusion of qualifying; Martinez would start the race in the second spot as a result of the field being inverted.  In addition to that news, Martinez would be a participant in the Trophy Dash.  This was Martinez' first Trophy Dash race.

Trophy Dash:
Starting second Martinez took the Green flag and immediately began a battle with David Beat (#06-Pick Your Part).  The action between Beat and Martinez was back and forth with Martinez defending the second place spot with all he had.  On Lap #3, Beat got into the back of Martinez' car causing the #03 to get loose but Martinez, showcasing that talent, managed to save the car and prevented Beat from overtaking the second spot.  As the checkered flag waved Martinez crossed the finish line in second place; his best finish yet at the Speedway

Race :
To say Mother Nature at times could be cruel would be an understatement.  Lining up minutes before the race, Martinez and crew were ready for the start of the race only to be greeted by a few raindrops and then, soon thereafter, a torrential downpour.  The Toyota Speedway at Irwindale officials decided to call off the race and postpone it for another night.

The 2008 points chase did not change as Martinez remains 10th in points with 240 points, while Randel King stays in 8th with 302 points.

Position One Motorsports will compete again on July 26th when the thirteenth  race of the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model series is scheduled to occur.

Luis Martinez Jr – Driver: “We were given a great opportunity this weekend to really show what we have worked for in the past few months. We held our own fairly well in the trophy dash, and I think we could have really done something special in the race. It's unfortunate about the rain out, but it is what it is and all we can do is wait for the next race weekend and come back even stronger."
