Position One Rebounds at Rounds 12 and 13.
Two weeks ago Mother Nature dealt Position One Motorsports driver Luis Martinez Jr (#03-KING TACO) a heartbreaking disappointment.  Scheduled to start 2nd for the first time in his career Martinez saw the race slip away moments before the start when a thunderstorm  and the ensuing rain forced a postponement.  For rounds 12 and 13, the team was determined to finish what it had started; start finishing races in the top-10, and gain as many points in the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model series championship chase as possible.  Larry Nava returned this weekend as Crew Chief to support the crew for the Twin-40 lap races.

Qualifying:
The way qualifying was done for this weekend's events was that each participant was allotted 2 laps.  Each lap time would determine the starting position for each of the two races scheduled for later that night.  Martinez was resolute in trying to put the best laps possible.  He completed the first of his 2 laps successfully and with 2 turns left on his second lap Martinez hit the Turn # 3 wall.  The major damage to the right front left the team scrambling to prepare the backup car in time for the races.

Race 1:
For Martinez, starting in the nineteenth and last spot, passing was going to be challenging and difficult to overcome but not impossible.  Bunching himself with the field Martinez took the Green flag and stormed his way towards the front.  On a mission to redeem himself he soon passed 3 cars by lap #3.  By lap # 6 Martinez found himself in the fifteenth spot. Martinez looked solid hugging the low side of the turns.  For most of the race Martinez battled with Jeff Eshleman  (#66-So Cal Wraps & Graphics).  With Martinez leading Eshleman, both of them continued their charge towards the front.  The backup # 03 managed to pick off 3 more positions before the checkered flag came out.  Martinez's ferocious effort resulted in a twelfth place finish.

Race 2:
Coming off a positive race the team and Martinez felt confident entering the second race of the night.  With  only a 40 minute break the Position One Motorsports crew methodically went over the KING TACO car to make sure it was ready for the next 40 laps.  Once again Martinez took the green at a manic pace and by lap # 9 Martinez was sitting in the eleventh spot.  Not satisfied he continued on and found himself battling with Toni Mccray  (#08-Lucas Oil, Napa Chevy)  The side by side racing by both drivers provided what many believe was the best racing all night.  Throughout their battle both drivers were able to make up ground on the field and by the time the checkered flag waived Martinez wound up ninth.  This was  Martinez' third top-10 finish of the season.  Martinez was also the recipient of the Hard Charger Award, which is awarded to the driver who gains the most positions during the race.  This was Martinez' first award.

Randel King  (#35-Randel King Racing- Molecule), Position One Motorsports other sponsored driver did not fare as well as Martinez.  For race # 1 King suffered from mechanical issues and finished nineteenth and things did not get any better for the youngster from Riverside for race #2.  On lap # 9 King and fellow driver David Ross (#57-Lucas Oil Products) got together which caused both to prematurely retire.  King finished nineteenth.

Despite the great finishes Martinez' 2008 points position slipped one point to 11th with 302 points, while Randel King stays in 8th with 330 points.

Position One Motorsports will compete again on August 9th when the fourteenth race of the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model series is scheduled to occur.

Luis Martinez Jr – Driver: "I think it was a great weekend in general. Although we did fall back to 11th in points, we made great efforts to finish fairly respectably after a big incident in qualifying which forced us to bring out our back-up car. I think receiving that Hard Charger award makes the next race weekend even more exciting. As for the team, they did an amazing job once again, bringing out the back-up car after qualifying and having everything so well prepared for both races. Special thanks to them."

Larry Nava – Crew Chief: “I'm real proud of Luis and the whole team for stepping it up after the wreck in qualifying. Nobody hung their head; everybody just went to work getting the backup car ready and the results showed. The guys worked great under pressure, a great team effort.”

Luis Martinez  – Owner: “I am very pleased with this weekend’s results. The team and driver performed in an outstanding manner! To get another top-10 was great, but to get the Hard Charger award with a top-10 is even better!   I am looking forward to seeing Luis Jr in Salt Lake this coming weekend, and then back into his Super Late Model the following weekend.”
