P1 Engines Wins Prestigious Award at IKF Grand Nationals
The 2008 IKF 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals, held in beautiful Santa Maria, CA is in the books.  At this year's event P1 Engines came home with more wins/podiums than any other engine shop with 6 Duffys, 4 Screaming Eagles, and over 22 top-5 finishes during the five day event.  For Position One Motorsports and P1 engines the Grand Nationals was the culmination of months of hard work and precise execution.

The highlight of the event was in the Junior Super Sportsman Heavy class where the entire top-5 finishers all had a P1 engines on their kart.   The Heat race started with P1 engine drivers Taylor Miinch and teammate Branden Underwood qualifying in the front row.  At the drop of the green flag the 12 lap race took on a hectic pace led by Miinch.  Underwood and Miinch battled for the lead but it would be the 13 year old Miinch who would cross the finish line first, followed by Underwood.  For the Final, Miinch once again managed to take the lead and at times led by a sizable margin against Underwood who was hounded by Kolby Araki.  While the top-3 battled Raquel Martinez, whose earlier race resulted in a seventeenth starting spot for the Final, drove at a blistering pace as she sliced through the field.  As the race came to a close Miinch and Underwood began to battle once more but it was Miinch who would end up taking the checkered flag first with Underwood trailing by 2.286 seconds, and  Araki in third.  The trio was followed by Martinez who made up an incredible 13 positions to finish fourth.  Tyler Palmer, another racer powered by P1 engines, muscled  his way from an eleventh place starting spot to take the fifth spot.

The Jr. Sportsman was another great race with the top-4 finishers all being backed by P1 engines. The race was intense from start to finish.   Martinez, Underwood, Araki and Miinch were all entrenched in a 4-way battle for the lead throughout the race.  Martinez managed to stay out in front even after a couple of last lap attempts by Miinch to take over. Underwood and Araki fell back as both battled for the third spot.   The finishing order would be Martinez, Miinch, Underwood, and Araki, with Underwood winning the Fast Lap of the Race Award.

P1 Engine also saw success in other classes with drivers like Ty Matta  winning  in the Master Formula Y-C class  and Neil McCoy winning by a large margin in both the Final and Heat races in the Senior Sportsman class.   This was Matta’s first Duffy and Screaming Eagle.  Taylor Miinch was victorious in two other classes, HPV 2 and Jr Super Sportsman, winning both the Duffy and the Screaming Eagle. At the end of the event P1 engines and Miinch Motorsports were awarded with the Lake Speed achievement of excellence.
